Program Overview

The LSNC:L1 program is designed to provide essential language support to newcomers, facilitating their integration into the childcare sector and enhancing their overall development within the community. This program is led by FRAP (Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle Région du Wood Buffalo) with support from Keyano College

 

Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted in the program, you must have:

  • Permanent Resident status, be a Naturalized Citizen or be a Conventional refugee in Canada
  • Be unemployed or underemployed (below 20hrs per week)
  • Must not be eligible for Employment Insurance
  • Have attended current or previous CLB 6 LINC classes OR have their English CLB level evaluated resulting in CLB level 6 or above.
  • Be able to provide a clean Criminal Record Vulnerable Sector Check

 

Program Structure

Course Delivery

Delivery Format: In-person at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus over 16 weeks. 

Course consists of 18 lessons, each three hours long (the first and last week of course delivery will have two lessons).

  • Cohort 1: January 10 - April 25, 2025
  • Cohort 2: October 3 - November 14, 2025

 

Employment Support Training

Delivery Format: In-person with FRAP at local employer over 8 weeks.

Each week will include three hours of employment support training. 

  • Cohort 1: May 2 - June 20, 2025
  • Cohort 2: October 3 - November 14, 2025

 

Note: Students must complete the Course Delivery portion of the program prior to the employment support training.

 

Fees

This program is offered at no cost to eligible individuals.

 

Government of Alberta SILP Grant 

This innovative initiative has been graciously funded by the Government of Alberta Settlement and Language Programs, Newcomer and Multicultural Supports Immigration and Multiculturalism through the Settlement, Integration and Language Projects (SILP) grant.

 

Registration

Registration will open in late Fall 2024, with the program commencing January 2025.
