You'll gain practical skills that will help you analyze financial information to plan fiscal management policies and create business strategies. You can start your path in our Business Administration Accounting Certificate program and progress to our Diploma program.  Graduates can apply the program toward earning a professional designation as well.

 Learn practical accounting skills

You'll learn accounting and finance theories that apply to a variety of positions in both public and private sectors.

You'll be able to audit a business and recommend ways to solve financial issues.

Through the program, you'll build on your ability to:

  • Prepare budgets, tax returns and financial statements
  • Provide personal and corporate income tax and estate planning
  • Plan control and use of business assets
  • Provide litigation support
  • Serve as a bankruptcy trustee and business valuator
 Professional accounting designations
Many professional accounting designations require a university degree. While earning your Certificate and Diploma through the program, you can also study towards your degree. For information on transfer to various port-secondary institutions, please refer to the Alberta Transfer Guide.

 

After graduating with your Bachelor, you can apply for a professional accounting designation.

Designations include:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • Certified General Accountant (CGA)
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
 Diploma in Accounting
 

You can graduate from the program without applying for a designation and work as:

  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Treasurer
  • Bookkeeper for a small- or medium-sized business

 

Admission requirements

High school diploma (or equivalent)

You must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) with:

  • A minimum of 55% in Math 30-1 or 55% in Math 30-2
  • A minimum of 60% in English 30/30-1 or 65% in English 33/30 or English 30-2

Current grade 12 students can submit an application on or after October 1 and we will process the application for admission. Any students with 5% or higher on the program admission requirements and school timetable showing they are registered in appropriate grade 12 courses may be given conditional acceptance into programs.

Mature students

If you're a mature student who is 21 years or older, you can be admitted by:

  • completing the required Math and English courses (with the grades specified); or
  • receiving a pass mark on the College Placement Assessment; or
  • applying as a Special Student who may take up to four courses (one per term) without meeting all of the admission requirements.

English Language Proficiency

You must have:

  • TOEFL: iBT with a minimum score of 79 with no score below 19
  • IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0
  • CAEL with a minimum score of 60
  • MELAB with a minimum score of 80
  • Duolingo with a minimum score of 95
  • PTE (academic) with a minimum score of 50
