Student Nathan Morin Wins National Power Engineering Award
Keyano College is celebrating another significant achievement: Nathan Morin, a Power Engineering 4th Class Comprehensive program student, has been awarded the prestigious Outstanding Student Achievement Award from PanGlobal. "The PanGlobal Awards celebrate the best and brightest in Power Engineering across Canada, recognizing not only academic achievement but also a deep commitment to the profession," said Indika Arachchi, chair & instructor of power engineering/process operations. Nathan's achievement represents a significant accomplishment for Keyano College. This is not the first time Keyano students have received this honour, cementing the institution's reputation for excellence in preparing power engineers.
Nathan's journey toward this award began with a passion for Power Engineering, driven by family connections in the industry. When asked why he chose Keyano, Nathan highlighted the program's efficiency, noting that "I chose Keyano over other colleges mainly for the length of the program. Keyano will give you what you need and get you working as fast as possible." The intensity of the four-month program, which he described as both a challenge and a benefit, required his full commitment. "To truly succeed in this program, you must devote almost the entire four months to studying," Nathan shared. He approached his studies with discipline, often reviewing material before class and spending weekends ensuring his understanding of the complex topics.
Gallage De Silva (previous Pan Global Winner / Canada second in 2014), Nathan's instructor, honoured his student's adaptability and willingness to embrace new tools and techniques. "Nathan's openness to learning and his resilience in facing challenges positioned him as a standout performer," said De Silva. These qualities were pivotal in Nathan's ability to excel in the classroom and competitions like the PanGlobal Awards. From the start, Nathan found support in Keyano's instructors and facilities. He noted how his instructors linked theoretical concepts with real-world applications, making the material easier to visualize and understand. "The instructors were excellent in relating the material to their own experiences, which helped me memorize and interpret the content better," Nathan explained. He also credited Keyano's state-of-the-art testing center for providing the right environment to focus during exams.
Keyano College's Power Engineering program stands out for its efficiency and the balance of theory and hands-on experience it provides. Gallage De Silva noted, "The program equips students with a strong foundation in academic knowledge and practical skills, ensuring they are prepared for industry challenges and success in national competitions like the PanGlobal Awards and to face challenges in the market." The program's consistently producing award-winning graduates reflects its commitment to student success.
