Bachelor of Fine Arts

Program Description

Students can complete up to two years towards a variety of Fine Arts degrees at Keyano College. Keyano offers the following areas of study: Art and Design, Drama, and Music. Students enrolling in a Keyano College program leading to a Fine Arts degree will be enrolled in the corresponding diploma program.

Please note that credit will be granted on a course-by-course basis. Not all fine arts courses in Keyano College certificate and diploma programs transfer to all universities. Please consult the Transfer Alberta website (www.transferalberta.ca) or an Academic Advisor for more information.
 
For most Fine Arts programs, an audition, or interview, is required. Please refer to the appropriate calendar or contact an Academic Advisor if the chosen major is not listed or for more information.

UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA

Note: the U of A requires transfer applicants to its Fine Arts program to present English 30 or English 30-1 or the equivalent.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art and Design) and Bachelor of Design (various routes)

Students completing the Diploma in Visual Art & Design offered by the Visual & Performing Arts department receive credit towards the first two years of the University of Alberta BFA in Art and Design or Bdes. Various concentrations or routes are available for Bdes. Please consult the U of A calendar, an Academic Advisor, or the VPA Chairperson for assistance in program planning.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) or Bachelor of Arts (Drama)

A full year of 30 credits of general University Studies is required to gain admission to the BFA (Drama) program at the U of A. Keyano College offers this general studies year including courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts. A maximum of 12 credits in Drama is permitted. Specializations include Acting, Design, and Technical Theatre. Please consult the VPA Chairperson for assistance in program planning.

Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts (Music)

Students completing Keyano's Diploma in Music offered by the Visual & Performing Arts Department receive credit for at least the first year of the University of Alberta Bmus or BA (Music). Bmus Specializations include General, School Music, Performance, Composition and Theory, and Music History. Please consult the U of A calendar, an Academic Advisor, or the VPA Chairperson for assistance in program planning.

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art or Developmental Art) and Bachelor of Arts (Art History)

Students completing Keyano's Diploma in Visual Art & Design offered by the Visual & Performing Arts Department receive credit towards the University of Calgary BFA in Art or Developmental Art or BA in Art History. Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama or Drama Education)

UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art)

Students completing Keyano's Visual Art & Design Diploma will be given credit for the full two years at the U of L and apply directly to the 3rd year of the post-diploma BFA (Art). Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dramatic Arts)

Students completing Keyano's Drama Diploma will be given credit for the full two years at the U of L and apply directly to the 3rd year of the post-diploma BFA (Dramatic Arts). Bachelor of Music

Students completing Keyano's Music Diploma will be given credit at the U of L and apply directly to the 2nd year of the post-diploma Bmus. Please consult the Music Diploma section of this calendar or contact an Advisor or the VPA Chairperson for more information.

ALBERTA COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN (ACAD)

Students completing the 1st year of the Visual Art Diploma will be given credit for the foundation year at ACAD and may apply for entry into a 2nd year major program on the strength of their portfolio submission. Please see an Advisor or the VPA Chairperson for details.
