Fitness Leadership and Movement

Program Description

The Fitness Leadership and Movement Diploma program is designed to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required to plan and instruct fitness classes, perform a variety of fitness testing protocols, counsel individuals and groups regarding fitness programs and establish and operate fitness programs in industry, clubs and communities.

 

The coursework within the diploma allows for students to take the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) national certification course upon completion of their Fitness Leadership and Movement Diploma coursework.

 
The coursework is designed to give students the confidence to begin their careers as personal trainers with knowledge and experience, as well as, the opportunity to network with local fitness professionals and facilities.

 

Admission Requirements

(a) Applicants must possess an Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with:

  • English 30-1/30
  • Math 30-1 or Math 30-2
  • Group A or C (Biology 30 Recommended)
  • Group B or C or one of Physical Education 30 (5 credits), Exercise Science 35, Sports Medicine 35, Sport Performance 35

     Students must have at least 60% in all classes with no mark below 50%.

 
(b) Mature Students (students who are 21 years or older)
 
     Require the following courses:
  • English Language Arts 30-1 (minimum grade of 60%)
  • Math 30-1 or Math 30-2
  • Subject from Group A or C (Biology 30 recommended)

    Graduates from the program will be able to:

    • Learn new techniques for fitness and training
    • Be a leader in developing population health and wellness
    • Gain knowledge to operate fitness programs in industry, clubs and communities centers
    • Learn what it takes to run your own fitness business
    • Qualify to take the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) national certification course
