Mechanical and Construction Trades Preparation
Program Description
This program provides entry-level training and employment skills for all of the mechanical and construction trades. Industry requires apprenticeship candidates who have demonstrated basic skills competences, a solid foundation of trade knowledge, and most importantly as safe work attitude. This comprehensive 24 week program is ideal for individuals with no previous experience in industry, to choose and prepare for a career in trades.
Graduates of this program will be equipped to meet industry’s demand for proficient and motivated individuals in entry-level employment positions.
The final six weeks of training is an assignment by the student’s choice of trade area to a work experience placement in industry.
Admission Requirements
A minimum of grade 10 academic proficiency. Applicants must complete a candidate profile package and a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test. To arrange TABE testing please contact the Skills Centre - please specify you are writing for this program.
All applicants to Keyano College must demonstrate English Language proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. For more information, please refer to English Proficiency.

Graduates of the program have the appropriate skills to become a first year apprentice or general laborer.

• An understanding of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
• An introduction to Loss Control Management
• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System certification
• Demonstrated basic theory and practical trade knowledge
• An industry based job performance evaluation from their work experience placement
