Health Care Aid
Program Description
The Health Care Aide is a 20 week full time program that allows students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need through full time course work.
The Health Care Aide (HCA) program is designed for caring people who like to help people. As an HCA, students will help a health-care team provide care to clients who need assistance. This program meets the provincial curriculum standards.
Admission Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2 or Equivalent
- GED's accepted provided student has successfully completed the Language Arts reading and writing skills portion.
- Completion of the health status questionnaire
- Physical and mental abilities required for lab practicum courses
- Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check. The cost of a criminal record check is the students’ responsibility, and may require more than one.
- Up-to-date immunization including Hepatitis B
- Computer skills are an asset
Career Opportunities
As a graduate of the HCA program you will be prepared to work in continuing care facilities (auxiliary hospitals and nursing homes) as well as in clients' homes in order to assist them with daily activities.
Program Outcomes
Successful competion of the program will enable the student to be a vital member of the health care team.
