Program Description

College Preparation Program
The College Preparation program is tailored to meet the needs of adults who wish to upgrade their academic education to a level that will allow them to enter apprenticeship, technical, career or university programs or to gain employment entry skills. The program consists of selected subjects and skill development at the Grade 10, 11, and 12 equivalency levels. The length of time required to complete the program will depend on a student’s background, motivation and goals.

 
 

Admission Requirements


Students wishing to enter the program should meet with a student advisor, counsellor, or the Program Chairperson in order to clarify their educational and vocational goals.

 

 
Admission to the program requires proof of successful completion of:
1. the Academic Foundations Certificate program with a minimum grade of C-in both Academic Foundations Language Arts 009 and Academic Foundations Math 009, or
2. a program of studies equivalent to an Alberta Grade 9, or
3. mature student status.

 


A mature student
(1) has been out of school for at least three consecutive years
(2) is at least 21 years of age
 
Credit may be granted for high school level courses completed in Canadian English-language schools or accredited Canadian post-secondary institutions.
Applicants may be required to write placement assessments to determine entry level in the subject(s) of study selected.

This program is tailored to help you prepare for the career cluster of your choice. Dependant on your career goals, as a graduate you will be prepared to pursue post secondary programming in the following career clusters:
* Business
* Community and Human Service
* Engineering and Engineering Technology
* Biological, Environmental, and Earth Sciences
* Health Sciences
* Power Engineering & Process Operations
* Trades and Technologies

Through this program you can obtain a Grade 12 credential which will open doors to the entry level job market.

Program Structure

 

To attain a High School Equivalency Diploma, you require Eng 30/33, once science, one math, and one social studies course. Two subjects other than English must be at the 30 level.
 
To prepare for a career goal, students are advised to choose a career cluster.
Note: The “A” Stream prepares you for University acceptance
You should meet with a student advisor to determine the best selection for your career goal
