The General Council consists of the Executive Council, our Student Representative to Board of Governors, and other student representatives from various programs throughout the college. Together they address student issues and work cooperatively to come up with the most effective solutions.
The General Council's duties as taken from the SAKC bylaws are:
11.4 Responsibilities of Student Representative to Board of Governors
The Student Representative to Board of Governors shall be responsible for:
a. Attending all meetings of the Board of Governors.
b. Representing the interests of the student body.
c. Attending and reporting at all General Council meetings.
7.9 Responsibilities of General Council Program Representatives
General Council Program Representatives shall be responsible for:
a. Attendance at and participation in all meetings of the Membership and General Council.
b. Representing the best interests of students in their Program and for bringing the special interests of their Programs to General Council.
c. Being knowledgeable about SAKC’s Bylaws and Policies and Procedures, and Keyano College’s Student Code of Conduct.
d. Serving on Keyano College and SAKC Committees as required.
e. Avoiding any conflicts of interest that may arise from paid or volunteer work or extracurricular activities with SAKC-affiliated external organizations.
f. Promoting program and College spirit by encouraging active participation in SAKC and Keyano College events and activities.
g. Reporting back to the students in their program about the activities of the SAKC. Complying with all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the SAKC Program Representative Job Description.
The General Council Program Representatives are elected for one academic year. Programs with less than 30 students shall elect one program representative. Programs with 30 or more students shall elect two. Election procedures are as follows:
11.1 Student Representative to Board of Governors
The SA President shall act as student representative to the Board of Governors.
7.10 Elections of General Council Program Representatives
Nominations and elections of General Council Program Representatives shall be administered by the Chief Returning Officer through the SAKC office no later than September 30. Program Representatives shall be elected by the students of their respective program or shall be appointed by the Executive Committee in the event that the program members fail to select a representative, or in the event that only the minimum number of people is nominated. Only students enrolled in a program in which a position is contested shall be eligible to vote for the representative for that program.
