Executive Council - Student Association of Keyano College

The Executive Council is comprised of the President, Vice President Communications, Vice President Student-Life and the General Manager. They manage the affairs of the Student Association of Keyano College (SAKC) in accordance with its bylaws. The Executive Council establishes goals and a budget at the beginning of each school year. They have regular weekly meetings to ensure that the Students' Association is moving toward these goals while adhering to the budget. They also attend conferences throughout the year for professional development and advocacy.

 

The General Manager is a (non-voting) full-time staff member. The President and Vice Presidents are part-time executives elected on a yearly basis. These elections are held in the spring of each school year.

General Manager

The General Manager is a full-time position within the SAKC. The individual in this position is responsible for managing the SAKC finances, office services and operation of the King's Lounge. The General Manager also plays an advisory role to the Executive committee by acting as a source of organizational memory. The GM must also be aware of any regulatory bodies that concern the SAKC, Used Bookstore and King's Lounge.

 

The following is taken directly from the SAKC Bylaws:

 

10.6.1 President

The President is the Chief Executive and Financial officer of SAKC. In addition to the major responsibilities of the Executive Committee, the President is responsible for:


a. Acting as the official spokesperson for SAKC in communicating with Keyano College Administration, Keyano College Board of Governors, external organizations and the general public.
b. Calling and chairing all meetings of the General Council, Executive Committee, other General Council committees and SAKC membership.
c. Supervising the General Manager on a daily basis.
d. Ensuring SAKC representation on Keyano College Committees and at occasions and events as required.
e. Being informed of student concerns among the SAKC membership and facilitating the methods of communication with the membership.
f. Being informed of the activities of SAKC affiliates as well as student issues within Fort McMurray, Alberta and Canada.
g. Maintaining and interpreting the SAKC's Bylaws and Policy Manual.
h. Holding monthly performance review sessions with each member of the Executive Committee.
i. Acting as a signing authority for the Association.
j. Keeping regular, posted office hours Monday-Friday from September to May for accessibility and consultation with the Membership and in order to fulfill the duties of the position.
k. Other duties as provided in these Bylaws or as assigned by General Council or the Executive Committee.

 


10.6.2 Vice-President Communications

In addition to the major responsibilities of the Executive Committee, the Vice-President Communications is responsible for:


a. Issuing and directing communications to the General Council and SAKC membership, including a regular newsletter at least once per month.
b. Regularly monitoring and updating SAKC bulletin boards, and ensuring that items are of a timely and tasteful nature.
c. Overseeing internal SAKC publications.
d. Representing the Association on Keyano College committees and external organizations as required.
e. Overseeing all external and media communications issued by SAKC, excepting interview situations normally the duty of the President.
f. Communicating SAKC’s position on any government issues and services that affect Keyano College students.
g. Coordinating awareness of SAKC sanctioned events to the membership with the Vice-President Student Life.
h. Acting as the President in the temporary absence of the President.
i. Keeping regular, posted office hours Monday-Friday from September to May for accessibility and consultation with the Membership and in order to fulfill the duties of the position.
j. Acting as a signing authority for the Association.
k. Other duties as provided in these Bylaws or as assigned by General Council or the Executive Committee.

 


10.6.3 Vice-President Student Life

In addition to the major responsibilities of the Executive Committee, the Vice-President Student Life is responsible for:


a. Planning, preparing, and coordinating a variety of social, educational, and family activities.
b. Acting as the President in the temporary absence of the President and the Vice-President Communications.
c. Familiarizing him/herself with AGLC regulations and taking necessary steps to ensure they are adhered to.
d. Ensuring awareness of SAKC sanctioned events.
e. Acting as a signing authority for the Association.
f. Keeping regular, posted office hours Monday-Friday from September to May for accessibility and consultation with the Membership and in order to fulfill the duties of the position.
g. Maintaining relationships with beverage sponsors for Lounge ambiance and door prizes for events.
h. Facilitating the creation of student clubs, societies, and organizations, and acting as a liaison/advisor for such.
i. Other duties as provided in these bylaws or as assigned by General Council or the Executive Committee.
