Science Alberta Foundation, in collaboration with Keyano College, is seeking a Youth Program Coordinator for the Fort McMurray area. This position is an integral part of Science Alberta Foundation’s newest pilot program, the Rural Youth Science Network (RYSN). This is a one-year contract with potential for renewal.

Responsibilities: 
  • Directly working with high school students in the Fort McMurray region as part of youth advisory groups, special events, and other networking opportunities
  • Assisting with the implementation of science- and technology-based special events, competitions, and opportunities for high school students in the Fort McMurray area
  • Engaging youth in science- and technology-related learning and career exploration, both in person and online through social media such as Facebook and Twitter
  • Creating material for the RYSN website and social media channels
  • Identifying and creating opportunities for partnership with others for educational outreach (such as local schools or youth clubs)
Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will be a current or future (September, 2012) student at Keyano College. Some experience working directly with youth, preferably in an educational context, is required. Flexibility, open-mindedness, creative problem solving and an ability to think “outside the box” are key for this position. Experience with online technologies, including (but not limited to) social media, blogging, video and photo editing, and website management would be an asset.

 

ELIGIBILITY: Preference is given to applicants beginning or returning to studies at Keyano College in September, 2012

HOURS: Approximately 10 – 15 hours per week with flexibility depending on program requirements
