Course Descriptions:

Fall Protection (OSSA Accredited)

This one day course provides participants with the legislated requirements of fall protection systems, including identifying potential fall hazards, fall protection regulations for Alberta, hazard analysis and risk assessment, selecting and using a personal fall protection system as well as inspection, maintenance and storage of FPS equipment. Both a theory and a practical session are included in this course.

 

Confined Space Monitor (OSSA Accredited)

This course provides participants with an overview and introduction to confined spaces, the legislated requirements, and the recognition and understanding of hazards and controls associated with confined spaces. The training also includes information necessary to perform specific confined space monitor duties and ensure appropriate response to emergency situations.

 

Aerial Lift Training Basic (OSSA Accredited)

This one day aerial lift course is designed for you to develop safe and efficient operator practices for various aerial lifts. The course will cover equipment inspection and pre-operation, job site, path of travel and work area inspection, manufacturer requirements, CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and WHS (Worker’s Health & Safety) Rules and Regulations as well as practical operation. Each student is required to operate all controls and understand all functions of the lift. Students are required to wear hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots.

Prerequisite: Fall Protection

 

Aerial Lift 80’ and Rising (OSSA Accredited)

This one day aerial lift course is designed for you to develop safe and efficient operator practices for aerial lifts that extend over 80 feet. The course will focus on working at additional heights, additional safety devices, and equipment setup and inspection procedures. Each student is required to operate all controls and understand all functions of the lift. Students are required to wear hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots.

Forklift Operator Certification

The course is designed to meet the needs of counterbalanced, sit-down, rider type lift trucks, regardless of brand and includes theory and practical components. The program focuses on proper handling and safety techniques. Students are required to wear hard hats, safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

 

Novice Counterbalanced Forklift Operator

This two day training program is designed to meet the needs of individuals who have minimal experience operating a counterbalanced lift truck. Upon completion students will be comfortable with the function and operation of the counterbalanced forklift. Theory and classroom learning make up a large majority of day one; the day also includes hands on practice with the machine. Students are required to wear hard hats, safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

Day two is entirely hands on; students will be introduced to machine functions and controls.

Zoom Boom (Variable Reach or Rough Terrain Forklift)

This training program is designed to meet the needs of the rough terrain forklift operators, regardless of brand. The course is ideal for all operators as it is designed to reinforce the importance of proper safety and handling techniques. Students are required wear hard hats, safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

Prerequisite: Forklift recommended

 

Skid Steer Certification

The course is designed to introduce students to safe work practices involved with skid steer loaders. Training is a combination of theory and hands on training. Students are required wear hard hats, safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

 

CEWLOAD100: Wheel Loader

The course addresses inspection, safe operation, maintenance, guidelines, hazards, and estimating loader production. Training will include classroom theory and hands on operation. Students are required to wear hard hats, safety glasses and steel-toed boots.

12 Hour Rigging and Overhead Crane

Students will identify the responsibilities of a rigger and demonstrate knowledge of safe practices in basic rigging as outlined by OH&S, demonstrate and receive proper hand signals, calculate the safe working load of any rigging arrangement using the Rigger's Pocket Guide, determine the maximum safe working load for any rope sling, web sling or common rigging hardware, and inspect the following rigging hardware; wire rope slings, synthetic fibre slings, lifting hooks, shackles, eyebolts, wedge sockets, turnbuckles.

 

ATV Safety

This one-day course trains you in the safe and efficient use of an all terrain vehicle. The course includes both classroom and practical training. Topics covered include, safe riding practices and strategies – quick stops and swerving, pre-ride inspections, riding over obstacles, personal protective equipment (PPE), traversing, turning basics – sharp turns, quick turns, loading and transporting, and transporting materials, winching and attachments. Students are required to wear Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet, eye, protection, gloves, boots and long pants. The ATV Rider Course is a nationally recognized program, developed by the Canada Safety Council, for the benefit of both industrial and recreational ATV operators.

H2S Alive

This course is valuable to anyone working where hydrogen sulfide may be a hazard. The course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect yourself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate self-contained breathing apparatus, a detector tube device, and perform rescue breathing.

 

Standard First Aid/ Level C CPR

Learn skills for adult, child and infant CPR, choking and rescue breathing as well as bleeding, wounds, shock and unconsciousness, head, spinal and pelvic injuries, bone and joint injuries, secondary survey, multiple casualty management, chest injuries, rescue carries, burns, poisons, eye injuries, medical conditions, EPI pens, metered dose inhalers and heat/ cold emergencies. New protocol changes and AED certification are also taught in this course.

 

Fire Extinguisher Training

In this four-hour course students will learn the components of the fire tetrahedron, different types of fire, classes of extinguishers and their rating system, and the PASS method of using portable extinguishers. Students are expected to extinguish a fire during the practical application. Students are required to wear hardhat, safety glasses, Nomex coveralls, and steel-toed boots.

 

Flag Person Training

Topics for this course include correct flagging practices and procedures, day and night operations, the correct flagging equipment and clothing and all other procedures that would make a safe work environment.

Master Electrician

This course will prepare students with three years’ post Electrical Journeyperson experience to write their Masters Electrician examination. The emphasis of the course will be on correct interpretation and application of the Canadian Electrical Code and the Alberta Regulations. The course also includes calculation and application of demand factors, review of single and three phase systems, transformer connections, motors and feeders - short circuit current and interrupting capacities of fuses and breakers. Course manual will be supplied but students are required to bring a 2009 Canadian Electrical Code Book and a calculator.

HET Advanced Technical Training

These 32-hour courses will prepare post HET Journeypersons with theory and hands on applications in advanced technical training.

 

CEHETEL100: Electrical

The course will include fundamentals of electricity, electrical schematics, wiring and connectors, test equipment, off-road electrical circuit fundamentals and service, practical use of multimeters on electrical test kits and components, battery fundamentals and service, testing using battery/starter tester and analyzer, magnetism, starting systems, charging systems, on unit starter and charging system testing, and equipment monitoring systems basics.

Hydraulics

The course will include hydraulic symbols, hydraulic jack calculations, cylinder extension and retraction times, pressure and flow, open and closed center systems, fixed and variable displacement pumps and motors, pump failure analysis, valves, methods of valve actuation, hydraulic testing and adjusting, main hydraulic system, systems used for implements and steering, and hydraulic cooling fan system.

Fire Watch

This training is designed to ensure that a fire watch is implemented to the fire safety of a building or area in the event of any act, e.g., hot work, or situation instigating an increased risk to persons or property. The term "fire watch" is used to describe a dedicated person or persons whose sole responsibility is to look for fires within an established area. Understanding the different types of Fire Extinguishers, agents and classifications, also the operation and inspection of different types of Fire Extinguishers.

 

Ground Disturbance 201

This course is designed for planners, managers, supervisors and employees who are or will be required to develop, plan and implement any kind of ground disturbance. Topics presented will include: identifying and defining ground disturbance; describing the hazards of ground disturbance; what permits and agreements will be required; how to locate and identify underground facilities; regulations associated with ground disturbance; reclamation overview; responsibilities for owners and ground disturber; and safety requirements. Theoretical concepts presented will be supplemented with a small group exercise related to planning a pipeline job.

This course has been granted equivalency to the Ground Disturbance 201 Training Standard developed by the Alberta Damage Prevention.
