The College has a commitment to Aboriginal education and has been involved with the community of Fort Chipewyan since 1976.

Credit instruction is offered principally in the adult upgrading programs of Academic Foundations and College Preparation. Post-secondary credit courses may also be offered as the need arises in other areas, for example, Business Administration, Childhood Studies and University Programs. All courses are offered in two sixteen-week semesters each year. This community-based programming plays a key role in enhancing opportunities for the community of Fort Chipewyan.

Residents of Fort Chipewyan can also take advantage of distance education opportunities through the Alberta North initiative. Keyano College manages the Community Access Point (CAP) to provide a network of educational services and programs to northern Alberta communities through distance education technology.
