Who Can Take CALP Classes?  What is the CALP class Structure?  How to Apply  Workshops

The Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) at Keyano College assists adults in enhancing their reading, writing, math, basic digital skills, and English Language Learning (ELL/ESL). We focus on building skills that support continuous learning.

Our program provides informal, non-credit learning opportunities for adults in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Stay tuned for exciting new workshops offered throughout the year. Explore the courses and workshops available below.  

Who Can Take CALP Classes?

All adults 18 years and over who reside in Alberta are eligible to participate in learning opportunities and access services and supports.

Courses

English Language Learning Literacy

You will develop foundational English language skills, focusing on basic literacy and communication. This course is suitable for you if you have no prior knowledge of English and limited writing skills in any language.

CLB Level: Pre-level 1 - 1

ELL Level 1: Learn to Speak English

Objective: You will acquire basic English vocabulary and common phrases, improving the fluency and clarity of your conversational skills. Additionally, you will enhance your English fluency, build conversational clarity, and expand your foundational working vocabulary.

CLB Level: 1-2

ELL Level 2: English for Daily Use

Objective: You will enhance your English fluency, build clarity in your conversational skills, and expand your foundational working vocabulary.

CLB Level: 3-4

Reading and Writing Skills:

We can offer a class to build your skills and confidence with:

  • Word use and sentence structure in daily correspondence.
  • Complex Sentence structures and expanded word use in stories, etc.
  • Academic skills up to Gr. 10. Includes textbook use, documents, and essays.

Job Planning Workshops:  Preparing You to Enter the Workforce

 

This series of workshops is designed to help you succeed in your professional life. Whether you’re just starting out or want to improve your career, these engaging sessions cover important topics:

  1. Session One
    • Introduction to Work: Learn about workplace dynamics, communication, and time management.
    • Career Planning I: Explore self-assessment, goal-setting, and career paths.
  2. Session Two
    • Career Planning II: Learn more about career development and industry trends.
    • Networking: Learn how to build professional connections.
  3. Session Three
    • Job Search Strategies: Learn tools for job hunting.
    • Resume Writing Basics: Learn how to create standout resumes.
  4. Session Four
    • Interview Skills: Improve your communication and problem-solving skills.
  5. Session Five
    • Canadian Workplace Culture: Learn about Canadian work norms and values.

  • Eligibility: Students need a Canadian Language Benchmark Score of 4 or higher to attend

Register for Job Planning Workshop 

Driver's Class 7 Knowledge Test Prep

This workshop is for people who want to get their Alberta Class 7 Driver's license. In the course, you'll get better at studying (using tricks like skimming and note-taking), reading and writing, and doing tests (remembering things, figuring things out). Together we will review all topics in the Drivers guide, learn how to study better, and give you practice tests. Our goal is to help you feel ready for your test by giving you lots of practice and information.

Limited to 15 participants register as soon as possible. 

NOTE: Participants under 18 years old will need to pay a $75 registration fee
